Reflective Essay...

Overall this is the most exciting project I have done since being at UEL. The whole module was well thought out and flowed, to gain an easy understanding of what was expected from us and how ideas evolved into the end product (the garments).

Before I started any of the research I had no idea who Rick Owens is and now feel like I could tell you what he eats for breakfast. I feel I have a full understanding of his inspirations and influences in which I believe have reflected in my final range and garments.

I feel I have achieved a lot from this module and gained a deeper knowledge on the importance of research before designing. The in class design classes helped me to free up my designing style and I will definitely bring this in to future projects.

My strengths in this module are researching and print designing. My lining design is one of the strongest components of my work. It reflects my own inspirations mixed with the influences of my design Rick Owens. When it came to researching I carried my camera everywhere I went, and took pictures that I thought I would inspire me or found interesting and unusual.

My weakness in this project is time keeping and sewing skills. Although I have improved drastically with sewing I feel there is always room for improvement especially at the standard I am at the minute. Over the next two years of university I hope to have made this weakness strength. With the time keeping I will tackle this with writing my own personal timetable at the beginning of each week and sticking to the schedule.

If I was to re-do this entire module again I would be more ambitious with my design for my garment and would stick to a tight timetable of work to allow myself enough time to finish each piece of work set before starting the next to avoiding catching up.

Overall I am very happy with my end result and look forward to progressing in the next module.

The Diffusion Range ...
The diffusion range will be made up of 1 jacket and 4 tops along with a perfume for women. The diffusion range will be called 'Dirty Glamour' the name is taken from the glamourous inspiration of hollywood films/actresses/costumes and contrasting in with word dirty for how Rick Owens contrasts his work.

MY Inspiration
Here is my inspiration for the perfume bottle design
The Final Garments ...

I will be making a one sleeved, floor length dress, alongside a tailored jacket. the lining for the jacket will have a water stained effect print , in which i will dye myself. The dress will also have a wather stained print but this fabric will be brought from Soho Silks for £18.95 per metre. The rest of the garments will be made in a grey felt from Clothhouse at £15.00 per metre. The garments will not be worn together but as single pieces.

Hidden Beauty...

These images will influence the fabric design for my diffusion range, and the fabric I use in my final garment.

My Collection

It's a 7 peice collection consisting of of 3 signature dress, 1 coat, 2 heaverly structured jackets and a pair of trousers.
The collection is about hidden beauty, I will covey this with dark structured garments 'hidding' the beauty underneath. The beauty will take form in the lining where the print with be influenced on crystal structure and the photographs that I have been taking around london of 'walls'. The dark colour palette with have hints of light contrasting pastels pinks and creams.
The silhoettes are strong with a consisant curve taking form in all of the garments to provide a capsale for the beauty.

Where I am so far.

I've finally started to get a feel of what my collection will look like, with the title 'Toying with Pretty' I want  'hidden beauty' under a layer of dark structural surface.
Rick Owens is not known for any kind of print or
embellishment he keeps his designs 'raw' and 'subtle' I want to bring this change through with a jeweled embellishment, although keeping it subtle. My inspiration for this embellishment is the Nature History Museum Crystal collection. and the 'decaying' walls I've been looking at.

The silhouette will get It's inspiration from hollywood glamours simple lines and the furniture collection in which Rick Owens brought out.

Brick Lane

Whist walking around Brick Lane last week I took a few photographs of 'backdrops' that interested me. Here are a few of my favourite...

Here is my favourite image. I love the way the build up of graffiti and ripped posted create layer upon layer creating a different feel, texture, colour each time.
